Martens Win Big At Warrington Summer Classic

Martens Win Big At Warrington Summer Classic

The Martens started off their u10 season with a solid performance in the Warrington Summer Classic.  They won their division notching 15 goals while allowing only 3 by the opposition.  The girls had a great time and were able to demonstrate some of the skills they have developed over the past 16 months.  Fans during the weekend enjoyed some quality u10 soccer, including the team’s first successful wall pass (“give and go” for basketball fans) , some advanced dribbling moves, numerous great crosses, and even scoring on runs from the backfield.  The girls played with great energy and enthusiasm and deserved their 1st place medals.

Parents’ Meeting August 15 and Coaches’ Meeting August 22

Parents’ Meeting – August 15

Did you ever want to know what the offsides rule is all about? Who is responsible for running AYSA and what does AYSA offer? What’s the difference between Pee Wee, Intramurals and Club soccer? Learn the answers to these questions and more during our parents’ meeting, on Wednesday, August 15 at the Northley Middle School Auditorium at 7:00 pm.

Parents of all AYSA players (pee wee, intramural and club teams) are encouraged to attend. Bring your questions and any concerns you may have as we present a “town hall meeting” on the subjects of soccer and AYSA. We will also hear from a guest speaker from our club who will discuss the recent hot topic of concussions and soccer.

Coaches’ Meeting – August 22

Did you ever want to be a soccer coach or help out with a team but were afraid to or the whole idea just seemed too much to take on? We know there are top-notch soccer coaches out there and we want to hear from you! AYSA has developed a complete support system designed to bolster our coaching ranks, the guidance we provide our players and, ultimately, the players themselves.  We will also hear from a guest speaker from our club who will discuss the recent hot topic of concussions and soccer.

From our new coaching manuals to coaching clinics, we will outline how AYSA is prepared to help you reach your full coaching potential!  The Coach’s meeting will be Wednesday August 22 at the Aston Township Building at 7:00 pm.  All current and prospective coaches are encouraged to attend.

AYSA Night at the Philadelphia Union – October 6th @ 7:00

AYSA Night at the Philadelphia Union – October 6th @ 7:00 pm!!!!!!

The Philadelphia Union will take on the New England Revolution and AYSA has 4 group tickets for sale.  This event was very successful last year and is a great opportunity for your team to spend some time together watching the professionals play.

Tickets are $35 each with no limit on how many you can purchase.

As an added bonus, AYSA has secured 6 ball kid spots.  Meaning, 6 kids (must be 14 and over AND have a ticket to the game) will be on the sidelines and be responsible for getting a ball back into play when one leaves the pitch.

We also have 4 seats, closer to midfield available for this game at $40 each.

Please contact Nick Randall @ events@astonyouthsoccer.com to secure your tickets.  Please let him know if your child would like to be entered into a drawing to be a ball kid.

Hope to see you there.

2012 Keith Warren Memorial Sportsmanship Award

Leah Roth was presented with the 2012 Keith Warren Memorial Sportsmanship Award at the end of the Aston Galaxy Summer Camp. Along with this award Leah received an savings bond for her hard work, dedication and love of soccer.  These are all things that were important to Coach Keith Warren and Leah continually demonstrated these strengths throughout camp.  The Galaxy team, and their  families as well as all of the Aston community will miss Keith.  He has touched us all and we will hold him close to our hearts forever.

This award was awarded to one girl who attended the Galaxy Camp this summer.  It was a coach picked award , by all coaches at camp  for a girl who demonstrated, good sportsmanship, hard work, and good behavior and was a role model at camp.

Who is Kate Sanitate?
I got my start as a goalkeeper in the intramural program for Aston before joining a club team and was named a member of tri-county select, later to be named TriStar at age 13.  I became the first female goalkeeper to play for the boys soccer team at Northley (which was obviously before there was a girl’s program).  I attended and played for Sun Valley High School where I was trained by Frank Giancroce alongside Jon Conway, who recently retired from MLS play from the Chicago Fire.  After high school, I played semi pro for Philadelphia before having my son.  After having my son, I started the women’s program at West Chester United, where I played Club Soccer during my high school years while playing premier ball for TriStar, and have now left that program to begin the women’s program here at Aston Soccer.  I have also trained several high level goalkeepers throughout my career and have provided private goalkeeping instruction for several premier local clubs including Nether Providence, and West Chester United.
