AYSA Spirit Night: September 5, 6:30-8:30 – Pennell Elementary
Our second annual Spirit Night season kick-off will be held on Friday, September 5, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Pennell.
We will announce all the teams beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by our coaches’ game at 7 p.m. A snack stand will be selling yummy morsels to benefit our Special Needs program and a DJ will be on hand to keep everyone rocking! This year we are also going to have some additional activities, like a Moonbounce, face painting, and a dunk tank where you can pay do try to dunk your favorite coach. Proceeds will go directly to the Special Needs Program.
Coaches – If you would like to have your team announced, please have your team assemble beginning at 6 p.m.

As an Youth Soccer Partner with the Philadelphia Union, AYSA from time to time gets an opportunity to participate in some special events. This year, we were asked to do something VERY special.
At the Union game on Sunday, August 24 @ 8:00pm, 11 lucky AYSA players (U11 through U8) will be escorting the starters out on the field at the beginning of the game. Participants will given a full Philadelphia Union uniform, their own locker room to change into prior to the game and one parent/guardian will be given field access prior to the game to take pictures.
Here’s how you can get entered in the drawing
1. Player must be age 7 to 10 as of August 24, 2014
2. Player and guardian MUST each purchase a ticket to the game from AYSA prior to August 4, 2014.
The Philadelphia Union require participants and guardians have a ticket to the game to participate.
3. You will be able to enter one name into the drawing for every 2 tickets you purchase. So if you want to buy more tickets, you will get additional chances to win. Tickets are $25 each.
4. Open to ALL AYSA players, Intramural and Club.
5. Drawing will be held on August 4, 2014
6. Tickets must be paid in full prior to the drawing and cannot be returned after the drawing.

AYSA will be hosting an Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Association Referee Committee certification course. A number of current AYSA intramural referees have already signed up to take the next step and become certified referees.
If you would like to join them, space is limited (and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis) and there are a few requirements:
- The cost of the initial class is $100.
- Students must be at least 14 years of age by the test date.
- Students must complete six online modules prior to the class.
- The class will be five sessions long.
- Students must attend all of the sessions and pass the written test during the last session.
- The maximum number of students the course allows is 30.
In addition, to remain a referee, every year you must complete five hours of training/meetings, pay a recertification fee, and retake/pass the test.
Please note that the requirements of the course are dictated by EPSARC and are not negotiable. AYSA is responsible only for obtaining the classroom for the course.
The exact dates/times for the course have not yet been set. Classes are typically spread out over the span of two weeks and the class is a total of 16 hours long (approximately 3 hours per session).

FCS Camps are a great place for kids to improve their soccer skills, make new friends and have fun! We aim to provide players the opportunity to reach their greatest potential by challenging them technically and tactically, in a fun and encouraging environment. Although each day is unique, here is an idea of what to expect:
9:00 – 9:15 Warm up: Handball
9:15 – 10:00 Technical Training: Working on players’ confidence with the outside of their foot. First touch with the outside, second touch with the inside, then go to goal!
10:00 – 10:45 Small Sided Game: Working with players to be more skillful and to make more, less-complicated decisions. Encouraging the use of the outside of their foot.
10:45 – 11:45 Power and Finesse
12:00 – 1:00 Lunch
1:00 – 1:15 Warm up: Cheesecakes
1:15 – 2:00 Expanded Small Sided Game: Working with players to be more physically efficient in their space, giving players more opportunities to play on both sides of the ball, and more opportunities to score goals!
2:00 – 2:45 Scrimmage – Have fun!
2:45 – 3:00 Cool down
After 6 hours of class room time, 12 hours of work on the field (6 of which in the bitter cold), and then running their peers (about 40 from various local clubs) through a practice session while being evaluated, the following coaches were awarded their “E” Coaching License:

Special Needs Director, Sue Vaughan and VP of Girls Club Soccer, Danielle Albrecht have been named as the 2013 TOPSoccer Buddies of the year by Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer (EPYS).
Sue and Danielle are being recognized for their work for our special needs program, which provides a safe, educational and fun opportunity for kids with Autism and other disabilities. This program was started a few years ago and has grown over the years to over 40 kids. Through their tireless fundraising efforts this program is provided to kids free of cost. It also allows the children on our club and intramural programs an opportunity to come out and volunteer as a buddy to every child who participates.
AYSA is extremely proud of this program and also of Sue and Danielle for their dedication to these special children.
